After gay marriage got approved by the Supreme Court, two gays spat on Father Jonathan Morris in New York City. This isn’t the first time I’ve heard about abuse like this. Teacher and minister Andrew Wommack was also spat upon by people who dislike him. I’ve also seen a pastor get punched in the stomach while praying for people in a prayer line. Far worse, the South Carolina shootings left nine people dead, including the pastor. The press called this racism, but I think the attacker is mentally imbalanced. Regardless, attacks on ministers do occur.
When Jesus ministered, many people tried to kill him. Truth to tell, some people hate God, and some people hate Christians. Father Morris didn’t deserve to be abused. Don’t gays know that there are gay Christians on the Left, and on the Right?…That’s right. Not everyone on the Right is a homophobe, and supporting traditional marriage (as people have done for centuries) doesn’t make you a homophobe either.
Unfortunately, being in ministry does have its perils. I know a church in Albuquerque, where the church got death threats because the pastor compared Christianity to Islam. The church had undercover armed guards in the service, and in the light of what’s happening in the world today, perhaps more churches need to do this.
Thank God for the brave men and women who serve God. It’s not always easy; sometimes it’s a thankless job, but the blessings far outweigh the perils.by
