Kim Davis went to jail for 6 days for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Some people called Ms. Davis a homophobe, a bigot, and the usual names they hurl at people of faith. Ms. Davis is the first woman in American history to be persecuted for her religious beliefs. The Left pooh-poohed this, saying she was breaking the law and should be removed from public office. Even some folks on the Right agreed with them.
Problem….What about the Dred Scott ruling?
In 1859, the Supreme Court stated that slaves were property, not people. Therefore, they couldn’t sue their masters to gain their freedom in Free States.
This led to the Civil War.
What about the “separate but equal” ruling that justified segregation?
This led to the American Civil Rights movement.
Where will the gay marriage ruling lead us?
I’ll leave you with ideas from the brilliant reformer and theologian Martin Luther. He said, Christians should decide for themselves what is true or not. They must have peace with their conscience and be true to themselves.
For this reason, Christians of the 1st century AD would rather face torture and death than submit themselves to emperor worship….Pilgrims left their home in England to live in New England ….And Kim Davis went to jail.
